THE MORMONS

We had to make a really hard choice. Lauren & I grew up Mormon and each episode of "The Mormons" addresses issues in our former faith that we at one point had to address and scrutinize for ourselves. Once we scrutinizing our faith, we had to make the difficult decision of leaving our church, our community and saying goodbye to the only life we ever knew.

There is a popular saying that members of the Mormon faith often use when members of their community leave. It’s a phrase that attempts to make the other person feel bad for telling their story and that is, “ You can leave the church but you can’t leave it alone.” Which is nice way of saying, “ if you’re out of the church and you don’t share our faith anymore then why don’t you stop talking about it?! ” We were never allowed to challenge the church while in it and the expectation is, once out, leave quietly without telling your story.

We are not alone in leaving and our story is shared by many. In our discussions with practicing members, inactive members and/ or excommunicated members of the Mormon faith, there are a few topics that hardest to discuss. These episodes attempt to draw attention to those common topics - so they may be discussed - in more detail on or offline.

We choose to live in a world where religion is not be off the table when it comes to scrutiny and/or satire. We choose to tell our story.
